Nestlé India denies FSSAI non-compliance claims over infant nutrition

Nestlé India has rejected allegations of non-compliance regarding its infant nutrition products following legal action initiated by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The regulator’s investigation focuses on claims made in promotional materials and on product labels for NAN EXCELLA PRO and LACTOGEN PRO.

The FSSAI raised concerns regarding specific nutritional claims, such as those involving ‘5 HMOs’ and ‘Whey Protein’ being easy to digest. The regulator suggested these claims may be misleading or in contravention of established food safety regulations.

In response, Nestlé India stated that its products and labels were previously approved by an FSSAI expert committee. The company maintains that its labeling statements are factual and supported by scientific literature. Nestlé has submitted a detailed response to the authorities and expressed its intention to continue cooperating with the regulator to ensure consumer awareness and compliance with all applicable laws.
