Nestlé develops new products for GLP-1 weight-loss drug users

Nestlé is pivoting its business strategy to capitalize on the growing market for GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, such as Ozempic and Wegovy. While investors have expressed concern that appetite-suppressing medications could reduce long-term demand for packaged foods and snacks, Nestlé views the trend as a significant opportunity to develop specialized nutritional products.

Using artificial intelligence and its 'Food Genie' platform, the company is analyzing clinical research to identify nutrient combinations that address common side effects of rapid weight loss. These side effects include muscle mass depletion and facial fat loss, often referred to as 'Ozempic face.' Nestlé has already begun incorporating collagen protein into its Vital Proteins brand to support skin, hair, and nail health.

To combat muscle loss, the company has developed protein-rich products, including the Boost Advanced Nutrition Shake in the US and Milo PRO High Protein in Asia and Australia. Additionally, Nestlé has patented ingredient combinations intended to help manage hunger levels after users discontinue GLP-1 treatments.
