Nestory Irankunda maintains strong form at Sporting CP

Australian international Nestory Irankunda continues to establish himself as a key player for Sporting CP following his £17m transfer from Watford. Despite Sporting CP’s recent 2-1 home defeat to Academico de Viseu in the Primeira Liga, Irankunda delivered a standout performance, earning a team-high 7.9 SofaScore rating. During the match, he completed five of six attempted dribbles and recorded six key passes.

Irankunda has secured a consistent starting role, appearing in his fifth consecutive match. While he has yet to score for the Portuguese side, he has provided two assists, both benefiting striker Luis Suarez. His contract with Sporting CP runs until 2031 and includes a significant buyout clause valued at €80m.

The club’s recent struggles have placed increased pressure on head coach Rui Borges. Following the loss to Academico de Viseu, supporters expressed their dissatisfaction at the Estadio Jose Alvalade. Sporting CP currently sits third in the league, nine points behind leaders Porto.
