Flydubai flight diverted to Saudi Arabia after violent cockpit altercation FAST-MOVING

A Flydubai flight traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv was forced to make an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, following a violent altercation in the cockpit. The incident, involving flight FZ1073, saw the aircraft rapidly lose altitude, dropping over 5,000 meters in less than two minutes, which triggered emergency transponder codes including 7500, indicating unlawful interference.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the event as a “highly severe security incident,” alleging that an Omani co-pilot stabbed the captain, Smit Machchar, and attempted to crash the aircraft. Passengers and crew members reportedly intervened to overpower the assailant and regain control of the plane. While Israeli officials have characterized the event as a potential jihadist terrorist attack, Flydubai has officially described it as a cockpit altercation and has called for caution during the ongoing investigation.

All 174 to 182 passengers and crew members were reported safe. The captain and co-pilot sustained injuries and were treated in Saudi Arabia before being transferred to Abu Dhabi for further medical care and investigation. In response to the incident, Israel has announced increased security screenings for pilots flying into the country, and Flydubai has temporarily suspended flights to and from Israel.
