Netanyahu claims proximity to defeating Iran during Mount Hermon visit

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Wednesday that Israel is “very close” to defeating the Iranian “terror regime.” During a visit to a military site atop Mount Hermon in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, Netanyahu asserted that Israel maintains an “unprecedented absolute control” over the region, spanning from the summit to the Yarmouk River and toward the Mediterranean coast.

Accompanied by Defense Minister Israel Katz and Deputy Chief of Staff Tamir Yadai, Netanyahu emphasized that the military presence aims to prevent hostile forces from establishing positions near the borders. He declared that the primary objective remains resolving the confrontation with Iran and that the entire “axis” will eventually fall.

These remarks come as Israeli forces continue military operations and maintain control over various territories in Syria and southern Lebanon. While a U.S.-sponsored framework signed in June outlines a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon alongside the deployment of the Lebanese army, Israeli military activity in the south persists. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called for an immediate cessation of attacks and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory.
