Netanyahu faces high accountability in polls over October 7 failure

According to the Ulban Shishi center, 58% of those surveyed believe his responsibility is “great,” while only 8% contest his accountability. The survey suggests that this issue will influence the decisions of 70% of voters in the upcoming legislative elections.

Political tensions are rising as the Prime Minister and his wife, Sara Netanyahu, have faced criticism for suggesting conspiracy theories regarding the events of October 7. Specifically, Sara Netanyahu insinuated that opposition figure Yaïr Golan may have had prior knowledge of the attacks due to his rapid response. Meanwhile, Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly blocked efforts to establish an independent commission of inquiry into the incident.

As Israel prepares for elections, the political landscape is divided between Netanyahu’s right-wing coalition and a fragmented opposition. Potential leadership contenders for the opposition include Gadi Eisenkot, Naftali Bennett, and Avigdor Lieberman. Key voter concerns include national security, the cost of living, and the conscription of Haredi Jews.
