Netanyahu visits Abu Dhabi for talks with bin Zayed

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly made an unannounced visit to Abu Dhabi on Sunday to meet with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. According to multiple Israeli media reports and a senior official, Netanyahu traveled via private aircraft and spent several hours in the UAE before returning to Israel.

The visit occurs amid significant controversy regarding a Haaretz report alleging that President bin Zayed warned Netanyahu in late September 2023 about a planned major Hamas operation. The report claimed this warning was not relayed to Israeli security or military intelligence. Netanyahu’s office has denied these allegations and threatened legal action.

While the UAE has not formally confirmed the meeting or the specific warning, officials stated that the country maintains “open and direct lines of communication” with Israel under the framework of the 2020 Abraham Accords. Some Emirati sources noted that security matters are typically handled through relevant agencies rather than at the level of national leaders.
