Netanyahu identifies overthrow of Iran as Israel's primary mission

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the overthrow of the Islamic Republic of Iran is Israel’s ‘first and most important’ remaining mission. During an Israeli cabinet meeting marking the Hebrew New Year, Netanyahu described the Iranian government as a ‘weak’ and ‘unstable’ regime that is nearing its end, asserting that such a change would transform the face of the Middle East.

Regarding the conflict in Gaza, Netanyahu emphasized that no reconstruction will occur until the territory is demilitarized. He noted that Israel is currently in discussions with the United States regarding the nature of any future reconstruction efforts.

These statements coincide with reports of intensified economic pressure on Iran. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described Washington’s strategy as a combination of blockades and severe sanctions intended to lead to the collapse of the Iranian regime. Additionally, recent military tensions have included U.S. Central Command targeting Iranian tankers in response to ballistic missile strikes against U.S. naval vessels.
