Netanyahu outlines plan for security buffer zones and Hezbollah disarmament
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has outlined a strategic plan to establish security buffer zones and barriers along Israel’s borders with Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, and the Gaza Strip. He stated that these measures are intended to enhance national security and counter threats from groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas, as well as the Iranian regime.
Regarding the situation in southern Lebanon, Netanyahu emphasized that Israeli forces will maintain a military presence in a designated “security zone” until Hezbollah is disarmed and its military capabilities are dismantled. He expressed a lack of confidence in the Lebanese government’s ability to achieve this disarmament independently. Netanyahu noted that while Hezbollah’s strength has diminished from its previous capacity of approximately 150,000 missiles and projectiles, Israel will continue operations against the group as necessary to achieve its ultimate goal of elimination.
These security measures include the construction of new border barriers, such as those recently announced near the Jordanian border, to mitigate risks from drones and infiltrations. While Israel presents these buffer zones as defensive necessities, the expansion of military presence in areas like southern Lebanon, southern Syria, and Gaza continues to raise concerns regarding long-term territorial control and the complexity of future diplomatic settlements.
