Netanyahu says Israel will not withdraw from Gaza until Hamas fully disarmed

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israeli forces will remain in their current positions in the Gaza Strip until Hamas is completely disarmed. He rejected a draft peace agreement sent by the White House, saying, “It is not our draft. We sent our comments.”

U.S. President Donald Trump had presented a “Board of Peace” roadmap that calls for the total disarmament of Hamas and the transfer of Gaza administration to an independent Palestinian National Committee. Hamas said it accepted the latest version of the roadmap but made its disarmament conditional on a full halt to Israeli military actions, a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and measurable progress on reconstruction.

Over the weekend Israeli airstrikes in Gaza killed dozens of civilians, including children. The attacks prompted a joint condemnation from Qatar, Egypt and Turkey. Israel continues to control roughly 65 % of the Gaza Strip and has refused to withdraw its forces.
