NetApp launches Keystone Sovereign storage service for Europe
NetApp has introduced Keystone Sovereign, an expansion of its storage-as-a-service (STaaS) offering designed to provide enhanced data sovereignty controls for customers in Europe. The service addresses increasing regulatory demands for data residency, operational transparency, and end-to-end compliance.
Under the new model, customers can manage where storage hardware is deployed, choosing between on-premises setups or co-location facilities. To ensure sovereignty, NetApp will keep data, logs, backups, and telemetry within specified European borders. Furthermore, customer support and escalation processes will be operated entirely within the region, and metadata will run on a sovereign European cloud.
The rollout will begin within the European Economic Area (EEA) on a country-by-country basis, with Germany, France, and the United Kingdom among the first to receive deployments. NetApp executives noted that the move responds to a growing market, with sovereign cloud spending projected to reach approximately $30 billion next year.
