Netflix acquires Ben Affleck's AI filmmaking startup for $587 million
Netflix disclosed that it paid $587 million in cash to acquire InterPositive, an artificial‑intelligence startup founded by actor‑director Ben Affleck in 2022. The deal, filed with the U.S. SEC in a Q2 2026 report, closed in March and brought the 16‑person team fully into Netflix's operations.
InterPositive’s technology is aimed at post‑production tasks: fixing continuity errors, correcting lighting, filling missing shots, and enhancing visual effects. It does not generate whole movies from text prompts but works with footage that filmmakers have already shot. Netflix said the tools will speed up editing, lower costs, and give creators more control without replacing human artistry. Ben Affleck will serve as a senior advisor to promote AI adoption among creators.
Financially, the $587 million purchase equals roughly 4.7 % of Netflix’s quarterly revenue, 14 % of operating income, and 58 % of its quarterly technology spend, signalling a strategic bet on AI‑driven production capabilities.
