Netflix acquires Nicholas Binge’s ‘Understudy’ in $1 million deal

Netflix has secured the rights to adapt Nicholas Binge’s short story, ‘Understudy,’ in a development deal reportedly valued at over $1 million. Binge is set to write the adaptation, which is expected to feature elements of speculative thriller, science fiction, or psychological horror.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller of Lord Miller, along with Steven Yeun of Celadon Pictures, are attached as executive producers. While Yeun is not currently signed on to act, there is an intention for him to star in the project. The production involves several executive producers, including Aditya Sood, Dan Shear, Christina Oh, and Binge himself.

This deal follows other recent successes for the involved parties, including Lord and Miller’s work on ‘Project Hail Mary’ and Yeun’s upcoming supernatural drama ‘Pagan’ for Netflix. Binge’s other works are also seeing adaptation interest, including ‘Dissolution’ at Sony Pictures and ‘White Smoke’ at A24 UK.
