Netflix adaptations drive up book sales in Brazil
A NielsenIQ BookData study commissioned by Netflix shows that film and series adaptations of literary works can boost book sales in Brazil by up to eight times. The analysis found that when a title is released on Netflix, sales of the original book surge dramatically – for example, Edyr Augusto’s *Pssica* saw sales increase more than eightfold, Daniela Arbex’s *Todo Dia a Mesma Noite* more than tripled, and Valter Hugo Mãe’s *O Filho de Mil Homens* rose sevenfold.
During 48 of the 52 weeks in 2025, at least one literary adaptation ranked among the ten most‑watched titles on Netflix Brazil. Elisabetta Zenatti, vice‑president of content for Netflix Brazil, said the partnership between literature and audiovisual media “strengthens the whole cultural ecosystem.” Upcoming Netflix adaptations in Brazil include *A Estranha na Cama* and *O Diário de um Mago*, and the company will sponsor the 2026 International Literary Festival of Paraty (FLIP).
