Netflix adds Colombian drama series “La Mujer Prohibida” to its catalog
Netflix has expanded its international library with the Colombian series “La Mujer Prohibida,” a 61‑episode melodrama produced by Caracol Televisión. The show blends political intrigue, musical elements and romantic betrayal, drawing loosely on Tolstoy’s *Anna Karenina* and Dostoevsky’s *The Brothers Karamazov*.
The series stars former Miss Colombia Valerie Domínguez as Karen Arbeláez, a politician’s wife who survives an assassination attempt and is rescued by popular singer Victor Rodríguez, played by David Palacio. Rodrigo Candamil portrays Alexander Orduz, Karen’s ambitious husband who seeks the presidency. The storyline follows Karen’s conflict between loyalty to her husband’s political campaign and her attraction to her rescuer, set against a backdrop of Colombian political and social tensions.
