Netflix and British Library launch UK literacy partnership

Netflix and the British Library have launched a national partnership in the United Kingdom to encourage reading by connecting viewers with the books that inspire popular films and series. The initiative includes dedicated funding from Netflix to support the British Library’s literary conservation and archives.

As part of the program, curated book collections based on Netflix adaptations—such as ‘Frankenstein’, ‘Pride and Prejudice’, ‘Heartstopper’, ‘One Day’, ‘The Thursday Murder Club’, and ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’—will be donated to 100 public libraries within the British Library’s Living Knowledge Network.

The partnership also features a program of streamed events designed to show audiences how stories transition from page to screen. These events have included discussions with actors such as Florence Pugh and Zoe Kazan. The collaboration arrives as the UK prepares for the 2026 National Year of Reading, following data from the National Literacy Trust indicating a decline in reading enjoyment among children.
