Netflix and Disney+ roll out ad‑supported streaming plans in Germany

Netflix has added a Standard subscription tier that includes advertising, lowering the entry price for German customers while retaining full access to its catalogue. The plan shows a few minutes of ads per hour, limits video resolution to 1080p in many markets and restricts some premium features such as offline downloads. The ad‑supported tier, first launched in several countries in November 2022, is now being promoted in Germany as a way to attract price‑sensitive viewers and generate additional ad inventory.

Disney+ similarly offers a €6.99‑per‑month ad‑supported plan in Germany. The tier streams in Full HD on up to two devices simultaneously, does not allow downloads, and is only available as a month‑by‑month subscription. Higher‑priced, ad‑free options (Standard at €10.99 and Premium at €15.99) provide better picture quality, more simultaneous streams and download capability.

Both services are expanding ad‑supported options as part of a broader industry trend to diversify revenue streams, appeal to budget‑conscious users and remain competitive in a crowded streaming market.
