Netflix and Elastica Films begin production on La Regenta

Production has commenced on ‘La Regenta’, a contemporary film adaptation of the classic 1884 Spanish novel by Leopoldo Alas, known as ‘Clarín’. This project marks the first collaboration between Elastica Films and Netflix.

Directed by Mar Coll, the film reinterprets the story from a female perspective, focusing on the loneliness and heartbreak of Ana Ozores. Set in the fictional city of Vetusta, the narrative follows a woman in an unfulfilling marriage who becomes the center of competing obsessions amidst a social environment of judgment and power struggles.

The cast features Ester Expósito in the lead role of the Regenta, alongside Oriol Pla, Vito Sanz, Borja Luna, Clara Ingold, Carlos González, Ana Torrent, Itsaso Arana, and Gonzalo de Castro. Mar Coll co-wrote the screenplay with Anna R. Costa and Diego Vega, while María Zamora serves as producer.
