Netflix and Greta Gerwig to relaunch Narnia with prequel

Netflix and director Greta Gerwig are set to relaunch the Narnia franchise with an adaptation of ‘The Magician’s Nephew’. This strategic choice serves as a prequel, moving away from the more commonly adapted stories centered on the Pevensie children and the iconic wardrobe.

By focusing on this less frequently adapted novel, the production aims to avoid the repetitive nature of previous adaptations. The story will explore new settings, such as the Woods Between Worlds and the destroyed world of Charn, while being set in post-war Britain. This new cycle follows a 2018 agreement between Netflix and the C. S. Lewis Company to build a new franchise.
