Mortal Kombat II to stream on HBO Max starting July 24
Mortal Kombat II, the sequel to the 2021 video‑game adaptation, will become available for streaming on HBO Max on Friday 24 July 2026. The film will then air on HBO linear the following day, Saturday 25 July.
The streaming launch includes a special version for the hearing‑impaired that uses “Visual Vernacular,” a visual‑based sign‑language format. The movie, directed by Simon McQuoid and written by Jeremy Slater, stars Karl Urban as Johnny Cage alongside Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Talim and Hiroyuki Sanada. It earned about $129 million worldwide during its theatrical run.
In recent interviews, director McQuoid said a possible third installment is still under discussion but no decision has been made, noting that the franchise’s future may depend on the performance of the streaming release.
