Netflix and VLC offer tools to optimize streaming and video playback

Netflix offers a specialized internet speed testing tool called Fast.com, which differs from standard tests by measuring connection performance specifically through the company’s Open Connect content delivery network (CDN). While traditional tests measure maximum theoretical connection speeds, Fast.com evaluates how effectively a user's connection can stream Netflix content by utilizing the same infrastructure used to serve its movies and series.

To improve multimedia experiences and prevent issues such as stuttering, audio desynchronization, or pixelation, users can also optimize media players like VLC. For smooth playback, especially with high-resolution or 4K files, it is recommended to use the latest stable version of VLC and ensure hardware acceleration is enabled. On Windows, this involves technologies like DXVA2, while Linux users can utilize VDPAU or VA-API depending on their graphics hardware.
