Netflix and YouTube compete for creators amid trademark lawsuit
Netflix and YouTube are engaged in an intensifying competition for content creators and audiences. To counter Netflix’s efforts to recruit popular YouTubers, brands, and podcasters, YouTube has implemented a strategy of incentives and penalties. The platform is offering lucrative deals, including production financing and higher ad revenue shares, to creators who commit to publishing exclusively on YouTube. Conversely, creators who move to Netflix may face penalties such as the loss of marketing promotions, exclusion from official events, and reduced profit-sharing opportunities.
Separately, Netflix is facing legal action regarding its animated hit, ‘K-pop Demon Hunters’. The Christian metal band Demon Hunter, along with AEG Presents, has filed a lawsuit alleging trademark infringement and unfair competition. The band claims the film’s title violates their intellectual property rights. The lawsuit seeks punitive damages and an injunction to prevent Netflix from using the name ‘K-pop Demon Hunters’.
