Netflix Anime Film “THE RIBBON HERO” Set for August 2026 Release

Netflix will stream the original Japanese anime film THE RIBBON HERO on 8 August 2026 worldwide. The movie is directed by veteran animator Yuki Igarashi and adapts Osamu Tezuka’s classic manga Ribbon no Kishi. Production is handled by Outline studio with character designs by Kei Mochizuki and animation direction by Ichinari Arakawa.

The film’s cast includes three members of the virtual‑YouTuber group Nijisanji—Mito Kōzuki, Rururu and Debi‑Debi Debiru—who make their first appearances as voice actors in a feature‑length animation. They join veteran voice talent such as Yoshimasa Hosoya and Yusuke Tsuchiya. A third‑party trailer released in July highlighted the protagonist Sapphire’s struggle against the invading force Nergal, and the movie was selected for the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026 where its director will take part in a panel discussion.
