Netflix Announces Ernest Shackleton Survival Film Directed by Philip Barantini

Netflix is developing a feature film that dramatizes the 1914‑1916 Imperial Trans‑Antarctic Expedition led by Irish‑born explorer Ernest Shackleton. The production will depict the Endurance’s entrapment in the Weddell Sea, the crew’s survival on ice floes, and Shackleton’s perilous rescue attempt.

The film is directed by Philip Barantini, known for "Adolescence", and is scripted by Academy‑Award‑winning writer Mark L. Smith. The producing team includes Ridley Scott alongside Cliff Roberts, Michael Pruss, Joey McFarland, Brian Oliver and Samantha Beddoe. This project marks Barantini’s third collaboration with Netflix after the series "Rabbit, Rabbit" and the film "Adolescence".
