Netflix announces Ghostbusters: Night Shift animated series

Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation have announced a new animated series titled ‘Ghostbusters: Night Shift’, scheduled to debut in 2027. Set in New York City in 1994, the story follows five inexperienced young people who find themselves responsible for a new wave of supernatural chaos and must step up to become the new Ghostbusters.

The project features executive producers including original Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd, Jason Reitman, and Gil Kenan. The series is set five years after the events of Ghostbusters II.

Additionally, recent Netflix productions have featured subtle nods to the franchise. The animated series ‘Haunted Hotel’ includes references to the Terror Dogs Zuul and Vinz Clortho, as well as slime reminiscent of the 1989 sequel. The thriller ‘Animals’, directed by Ben Affleck, contains appearances of the Ecto-1 vehicle and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
