Netflix announces new Michael Schumacher documentary

Netflix has confirmed a new feature-length documentary titled ‘Schumacher ’94 – The Birth of a Legend’, scheduled for global release on October 2, 2026. The film focuses on Michael Schumacher’s journey during the 1994 Formula 1 season, detailing how the 25-year-old driver transitioned from an underdog to a world champion.

The documentary will cover pivotal moments of the 1994 season, including Schumacher’s first victory in Brazil and the tragic racing weekend at Imola that resulted in the deaths of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger. It aims to explore the intense ‘Schumi-mania’ of the era alongside the controversies regarding driving maneuvers and fairness that defined the season.

Directed by Christin Freitag and produced by Leonine Documentaries, the film will feature insights from Schumacher’s wife, Corinna Schumacher, and individuals close to the former Ferrari driver. This production follows the 2021 documentary ‘Schumacher’, further expanding the streaming platform’s motorsport content.
