Netflix confirms final season of ‘Die Kaiserin’ for November 2026
Netflix has announced that the third and final season of the acclaimed historical drama ‘Die Kaiserin’ (The Empress) will premiere on November 12, 2026. The series, which previously won an International Emmy for Best Drama Series, follows the turbulent life of Empress Elisabeth and her relationship with Emperor Franz Joseph.
The final season is expected to focus on political and personal collapse. Following his return from the Sardinian War, Emperor Franz is depicted as a broken man haunted by guilt, leading to marital strain and infidelity. As Elisabeth seeks refuge from the pressures of the Viennese court, she encounters Count Andrássy, a leader of the Hungarian Revolution, creating new emotional and political conflicts. The narrative also expands to include Franz’s brother, Maximilian, as he seeks the throne in Mexico.
In separate entertainment news, actress Karoline Herfurth has achieved a rare milestone on Netflix, with two of her films, ‘Einfach mal was Schönes’ and ‘Wunderschöner’, simultaneously appearing in the platform’s top five rankings. Additionally, the German telenovela ‘Sturm der Liebe’ is introducing new cast members Manuel Cortez and Roberto Capasso, who will portray characters involved in the show’s culinary scenes.
On the broadcasting front, the German television program ‘Tatort’ will be replaced this Sunday by a live coverage of the UEFA Nations League match between Germany and Greece.
