Netflix series ‘Below’ sets record for Canadian debuts

The Netflix suspense miniseries ‘Below’ (also known as ‘Profundezas’) has achieved a historic milestone for Canadian productions. The series recorded 17 million views during its opening period between October 5 and October 11, making it the most-watched debut for a Canadian title on the platform.

Set in the coastal community of Snook’s Arm, Newfoundland, the horror series stars Josh Hartnett as Calvin Penney, a fisherman attempting to protect his family and neighbors from a mysterious sea creature. The production has quickly risen to the top of Netflix’s English-language television rankings.

Other notable performers in the series include Mackenzie Davis and Charlie Heaton. The show’s success follows a competitive week on the platform, where it outperformed other major titles such as the adaptation of ‘East of Eden’ and ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’.
