Netflix to adapt Roald Dahl adult short stories into six-part series

Netflix is producing a six-part drama series based on the macabre short stories written by Roald Dahl for adults. The project, announced at the Edinburgh TV Festival, marks a departure from the author’s well-known children’s fantasy works.

Written and adapted by Danny Brocklehurst, the series features a large ensemble cast including Nicola Coughlan, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West, Naomi Scott, Toby Jones, Carmen Ejogo, and Clarke Peters. The plot follows a young couple stranded in a faded seaside town who become entangled with conmen, adulterers, and murderous mothers while attempting to escape their fate.

Production is currently underway in Manchester and across the North of England. The series is being developed by Orchid Pictures, with executive producers including Gabriel Silver and Suzanne Mackie. This production is part of Netflix’s broader strategy to utilize the Roald Dahl Story Company archives following its 2021 acquisition.
