Netflix Announces Thriller Series “Below” Set in Newfoundland
Netflix has released the first teaser for its upcoming six‑episode limited series Below, which will debut on the streaming service on 8 October 2026. The show stars Josh Hartnett as Calvin Penney, a stubborn but big‑hearted fisherman living in a small Newfoundland town, and features a cast that includes Mackenzie Davis, Charlie Heaton, Ruby Stokes, Kaleb Horn, Rohan Campbell and Willow Kean. The series follows Penney as a mysterious sea creature begins terrorising the community, forcing him to protect his family and uncover long‑buried island secrets while still haunted by his father's unresolved death.
Below was created and is showrun by Jesse McKeown, with executive producers Jessica Rhoades, Chris Hatcher, Josh Hartnett, Jamie Childs, Louise Sutton and Sharon Hall. The production was filmed on location in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, and will have its world premiere in the Primetime programme at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2026 before its global Netflix release.
The teaser offers only a glimpse of the unseen creature and emphasizes the stark, rugged coastal landscape and the tight‑knit community that must confront the threat.
