Netflix announces ‘Unaccustomed Earth’ series starring Freida Pinto

Netflix has announced that its new eight-episode drama series, ‘Unaccustomed Earth’, is scheduled to premiere on December 17, 2026. Produced by Warner Bros. Television, the series is inspired by the Pulitzer Prize-winning short story collection of the same name by Jhumpa Lahiri.

Rather than a traditional anthology, showrunner Madhuri Shekar has adapted the stories into a single, interwoven narrative centered on an Indian American community in Cambridge and Boston, Massachusetts. The plot follows Parul Chaudhury (played by Freida Pinto), a woman who moves her family from India back to the United States following a cancer diagnosis. Seeking to reclaim the life she once sacrificed to honor her father’s wishes, her radical choices impact her family and the surrounding immigrant community.

The ensemble cast includes Siddarth, Indraneil Sengupta, Parveen Kaur, Sarayu Blue, Justin Bartha, Adi Roy, Iyla Sundarsingh Mckaig, and Jayant Kripalani. Executive producers include Madhuri Shekar, John Wells, Jhumpa Lahiri, Nisha Ganatra, Erica Saleh, Erin Jontow, and Celia Costas. Ritesh Batra will direct and executive produce the first two episodes.
