Netflix Assassin’s Creed series to feature authentic Ancient Rome

Netflix is developing a live-action Assassin’s Creed series set in 64 AD Rome during the reign of Emperor Nero. The production, a collaboration with Ubisoft, aims for high historical authenticity to appeal to fans of the video game franchise.

Filming is currently underway in Rome, with significant work taking place at Cinecittà Studios. Cast member Mirren Mack described the production experience as entering a ‘time machine,’ praising the creative team's attention to detail in recreating the era.

The series is led by showrunners and executive producers Roberto Patino (Westworld) and David Wiener (Halo). While inspired by the Ubisoft franchise, the story will be an original narrative focusing on the secret conflict between two groups with opposing views on human freedom and societal control. The cast includes Mirren Mack, Toby Wallace, Noomi Rapace, Lola Petticrew, Zachary Hart, and Tanzyn Crawford.
