Netflix cancels Ransom Canyon after two seasons

Netflix has canceled the Texas-based romantic drama ‘Ransom Canyon’ after two seasons. The decision comes approximately six weeks after the release of its second season on July 23.

Based on novels by Jodi Thomas, the series stars Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly. Reports indicate the cancellation was driven by a significant decline in viewership; the second season recorded 4.1 million views in its opening week, a 43% drop from the 7.2 million views achieved during the first season's premiere.

Industry analysts suggest the high production costs associated with the lead actors, combined with the viewership decline, influenced the streamer's decision. The series had already undergone a creative overhaul and a reduced episode order for its second season, which consisted of eight episodes instead of ten.

Minka Kelly expressed her gratitude to the cast and fans on social media, noting that ‘all good things must come to an end.’ While the cancellation leaves some storylines unresolved, the second season finale provided a conclusion for the central characters, Staten and Quinn.
