Netflix cancels romantic drama Ransom Canyon after two seasons

Netflix has canceled the Texas-based romantic drama ‘Ransom Canyon’ after two seasons. The decision comes approximately six weeks after the release of its second season on July 23.

Adapted from the novels by Jodi Thomas, the series stars Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly. While the second season reportedly received better internal creative feedback following a storyline reset and cast overhaul, viewership saw a significant decline. The show recorded 4.1 million views during its first week of Season 2, a 43% decrease from the 7.2 million views achieved during the Season 1 premiere.

Industry reports suggest the cancellation is a result of Netflix’s cost-versus-performance model. Despite the show's marquee leads, the drop in viewership and its quicker exit from the weekly Top 10 list compared to the first season likely made the production costs difficult to justify for a third installment.
