Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos addresses slowed platform growth

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos stated at Bloomberg’s Screentime event that the streaming platform is not growing as quickly as desired. During the first half of 2026, Netflix viewership increased by only 2 percent.

To accelerate growth and reduce subscriber churn, Netflix is expanding its investment in live programming and sports, including NFL games. While live content currently accounts for approximately 5 percent of content investment and 1 percent of viewership, Sarandos noted its effectiveness in driving new signups and attracting advertisers.

Sarandos also addressed the company’s competitive landscape following a US district judge’s decision to allow the merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery to proceed. He defended Netflix’s previous bidding efforts for Warner Bros. Discovery, suggesting the company’s strategy remains sound despite the evolving market.
