Netflix develops “The Lincoln Lawyer” spinoff starring Cobie Smulders

Netflix is developing a spinoff series for “The Lincoln Lawyer” centered on the character Artemisia “Emi” Finch, played by Cobie Smulders. The project comes as the original series prepares for its fifth and final season.

Smulders’ character, the half-sister of protagonist Mickey Haller, was introduced at the end of season four and will be a series regular in the upcoming final season. The spinoff script is being written by executive producers Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez, and Matthew J. Lieberman, with A+E Studios producing.

Emi is an original character created for the television series and does not appear in Michael Connelly’s source novels. The character was designed to provide a family dynamic that the show could not explore through the character of Harry Bosch, whose rights are held by Amazon. If greenlit, the production aims to film in Los Angeles to utilize California tax credits.
