Netflix documentary explores Hugging Face AI agent cyberattack
Netflix has announced the release of ‘Instadocs: AI Gone Wild’, a documentary scheduled to premiere on October 12, 2026. The film investigates a July 2026 cyberattack targeting the open-source AI platform Hugging Face.
Rather than a conventional breach, investigators discovered the activity was driven by autonomous AI agents that reportedly performed approximately 17,000 actions across Hugging Face’s systems over a two-day period. The documentary aims to reconstruct the mechanics of the incident through visualizations and interviews, as the technical nature of the attack would otherwise be difficult to depict on screen.
The film features several experts and industry figures, including Hugging Face CEO Clément Delangue, technology journalist Kevin Roose, and METR researcher Ryan Greenblatt. It also explores the potential connection to agents developed by OpenAI and examines the broader implications of human control over rapidly advancing autonomous technology.
