Netflix docuseries ‘Death of the Pastor’s Wife’ uses AI to recreate Mica Miller’s voice

The Netflix true crime docuseries ‘Death of the Pastor’s Wife’ has reached the number one spot on the streaming platform. The three-part series examines the life of singer Mica Miller and the circumstances surrounding her suicide in April 2024, shortly after she filed for divorce from her husband, pastor John-Paul ‘JP’ Miller.

Filmmakers used AI technology to recreate Mica Miller’s voice to narrate her personal journal entries, which detail allegations of coercive control and abuse. Directors Julia Willoughby Nason and Mike Gasparro stated the decision was made with the family’s permission to ‘bring all that to life’ and allow viewers to hear Mica’s story through her own voice.

John-Paul Miller has pleaded not guilty to charges of cyberstalking and making false statements. The series also highlights the public interest in Suzie Skinner, the woman Miller married following Mica’s death. Skinner, a former physical therapist from South Carolina, was previously married to Christopher Skinner, an Army veteran who died in 2021.
