Netflix expands 4K streaming support to Google Chrome

Netflix has expanded its 4K Ultra HD streaming support to the Google Chrome web browser, a feature previously limited to Microsoft Edge and Apple Safari. This update is available for users running Chrome version 117 or later on Windows and Chromebook platforms.

To access 4K content via Chrome, users must meet stringent hardware and software requirements. This includes a Netflix Premium subscription, a stable internet connection of at least 15 Mbps, and the Windows 11 operating system, as Windows 10 is officially excluded from this specific support. Hardware needs include at least a 7th generation Intel Core or AMD Ryzen processor, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 or AMD Radeon RX 400 series graphics card (or higher), and a 4K monitor with a 60 Hz refresh rate.

Additionally, the setup must support the HDCP 2.2 DRM copy protection standard for all connected displays. While Chrome now supports 4K, it does not support HDR, a feature still available through Microsoft Edge and the Netflix Windows application. Users on macOS must continue to use Safari for 4K playback.
