Netflix explores live TV channels and streaming bundles
Netflix executives are evaluating a shift toward always‑on, linear channels that would stream curated movies and series by genre, a model known as FAST (Free‑Ad‑Supported Television). The move is intended to address a recent decline in user engagement, even as subscriber numbers and revenue remain strong. Internal discussions during the 2026 annual business review also covered bundling rival streaming services—such as NBCUniversal’s Peacock—directly within the Netflix app, mirroring strategies used by Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.
The company has already experimented with live programming, including a partnership with France’s TF1 to carry live broadcasts, and it is expanding short‑form video from brands like Condé Nast and BuzzFeed. By adding linear channels and third‑party bundles, Netflix hopes to increase time spent on the platform, boost advertising revenue, and counteract the “decision fatigue” that has been eroding viewer retention on its on‑demand catalogue.
