Netflix faces increased competition following Skydance acquisition of Warner Bros

Netflix faces heightened competition in the streaming market following the acquisition of Warner Bros. by Skydance, led by CEO David Ellison. The Skydance deal, which follows a period of regulatory scrutiny, aims to combine streaming services such as HBO Max and Paramount+ and includes plans to release 30 movies annually.

Media mogul John Malone reported that the Trump administration warned Netflix it had virtually no chance of securing regulatory approval for its own proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. While Netflix officially stated it withdrew from the deal because Warner Bros. Discovery preferred Paramount’s offer, Malone noted that the administration's warning regarding regulatory hurdles was a significant factor in the decision to abandon the bid.
