Netflix film The Last House follows family trapped by mysterious barrier

The Netflix science fiction film ‘The Last House’ follows the Delgado family, led by Jason (Wagner Moura) and Anne (Greta Lee), after they become trapped inside their Seattle-area home. A mysterious, water-like barrier prevents all doors and windows from opening, effectively isolating the family from their neighbors and the outside world.

The story spans several years, utilizing time jumps to show the family's struggle for survival as food and water supplies dwindle. Due to these jumps, the character of Ruth is portrayed by different actresses: Riley Chung as a child, Emma Ho as a teenager, and Arden Cho as the adult narrator.

As the family remains trapped, they observe strange phenomena, including the appearance of sea creatures during rainstorms. After five years, the family eventually escapes the barrier by boat and encounters other survivors.
