Netflix fires film chief Dan Lin amid mass layoffs

Netflix has dismissed Dan Lin, the head of its film division, as part of a major corporate restructuring. The move follows a week in which the streaming giant cut approximately 1,000 jobs, representing about 6 percent of its global workforce.

Lin, who took over the department in early 2024, was reportedly let go following friction with high-profile filmmakers. Reports indicate clashes with director David Fincher regarding budgetary constraints on 'The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth' and tension with Greta Gerwig over the 'Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew' project.

Other high-level departures include chief content officer Bela Bajaria and Lin’s deputy, Doug Belgrad. Peter Rice is scheduled to take over the creative leadership role as chief content officer on October 26. No official successor for Lin has been named, though industry speculation has linked names such as Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy to the position.
