Pablo Larraín’s ‘Mis muertos tristes’ debuts at San Sebastián Film Festival

The Netflix miniseries ‘Mis muertos tristes’, directed by Pablo Larraín and based on the stories of Argentine author Mariana Enríquez, was presented at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. The production follows Ema, a retired doctor with the ability to see and hear the dead, and explores themes of memory, trauma, and social violence in Buenos Aires suburbs.

Renowned author Stephen King praised the series on social media, calling the premise a ‘great idea’ and recommending it to his followers. The project features an ensemble cast including Mercedes Morán, Dolores Fonzi, and Carolina Álvarez.

During the festival, actress Dolores Fonzi criticized the current state of cultural funding in Argentina under the government of Javier Milei. She described the situation as ‘pessimistic’ and noted that the weakening of the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA) has made international co-productions and industry connections increasingly difficult.
