Netflix horror series ‘Below’ explores sea monster terror

Netflix has released the monster-horror drama series ‘Below’, starring Charlie Heaton and Josh Hartnett. The series follows a fisherman attempting to protect his family and community from a mysterious sea creature terrorizing a remote town.

Actor Charlie Heaton, known for ‘Stranger Things’, noted a coincidence in his roles, observing that his opening scene in both ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘Below’ involves cooking breakfast.

The series concludes with a flash-forward showing the protagonist, Calvin, and his family thriving in Snook’s Arm. While Dr. Fonda explains that the creature died after releasing its eggs, the final shot depicts giant floating icebergs, implying they may be squid nests. Showrunner Jesse McKeown described the ending as a reprieve rather than a total resolution, noting the visual of the icebergs was part of the original outline. While a second season has not been officially planned, the series leaves questions regarding the survival of a baby squid seen in a lab.
