Netflix faces financial pressure and workforce reductions
Netflix is undergoing a significant restructuring following disappointing quarterly results. The company reported an 11.8% revenue growth for the period ending in September, but projected a slowdown to 11.5% for the final quarter of the year, down from 17.6% in the same period of 2025. This guidance led to a decline in stock value, contributing to a market capitalization loss of nearly half over the past year.
In response to investor concerns regarding a lack of major hits and slowing growth, Netflix has implemented a workforce reduction of approximately 6%, its largest round of cuts since 2022. This includes the dismissal of several key creative executives. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos noted that while international markets in Latin America, EMEA, and APAC are driving subscriber growth and revenue, the United States market is not growing as rapidly as desired. Co-CEO Greg Peters described the layoffs as a necessary measure to increase efficiency and reposition the company for long-term growth.
