Netflix K-drama ‘Acaramelados’ becomes a global Top 10 phenomenon

The South Korean K-dramaAcaramelados’ has become a global phenomenon on Netflix following its release on August 7. The series, produced by Studio S, has quickly entered the Top 10 in dozens of countries, blending elements of romance, comedy, and judicial drama.

The plot follows Jang Tae-ha, an ex-boxer with ties to organized crime, who poses as the boyfriend of Go Eun-sae to protect her. Eun-sae is an anti-corruption prosecutor who suffers from amnesia after surviving an assassination attempt. The series features Jung Hae-in and Ha Young in leading roles, alongside Heo Sung-tae, known for his role in ‘Squid Game’.

While the Spanish title ‘Acaramelados’ suggests a sweet tone, the original Korean title translates more ironically to ‘This Shitty Love’, reflecting the show's blend of romantic and bitter themes. The series has seen significant engagement on social media due to its rapid pacing and character chemistry.
