Netflix lands Cliff Booth sequel while Marvel postpones Shang‑Chi sequel
Sony Pictures expressed disappointment after the Cliff Booth sequel, titled "Les Aventures de Cliff Booth," was handed to Netflix. The $200 million project will star Brad Pitt, who is set to receive $40 million, and will be directed by David Fincher, who is under an exclusive deal with Netflix. Sony head Tom Rothman told Variety, "Because David Fincher is exclusive to Netflix, we would not get in the way of him," and confirmed his disappointment.
Marvel director Destin Daniel Cretton voiced frustration over the delay of the Shang‑Chi sequel. Despite the original film earning $432 million worldwide on a $150‑200 million budget, Marvel has shifted to releasing fewer films, leaving the sequel in limbo. Cretton told The Wrap, "It's frustrating when things stay suspended, without ever getting done," criticizing the studio’s new strategy that pushed the project aside.
