Netflix launches Japanese‑Korean series 'Human Vapor' on July 2, 2026

Netflix and Japan's Toho Studios released a new eight‑episode science‑fiction thriller, “Human Vapor,” on July 2 2026. The series reimagines the 1960 Toho film of the same name, adding contemporary themes such as media influence and collective panic. It marks the first television co‑production between Netflix and Toho, with additional visual‑effects work from Korean partners.

The story follows a shapeshifting killer who can turn into vapor, sparking a series of live‑broadcast murders that trigger worldwide hysteria. Creators Yeon Sang‑ho and Ryu Yong‑jae wrote the script, while Shinzo Katayama directed. The cast includes Shun Oguri as detective Kenji Okamoto, Yu Aoi, Suzu Hirose, Kento Hayashi and Yutaka Takenouchi. All eight episodes are available globally on Netflix with Portuguese dubbing and other language options.
