Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew faces reported production issues at Netflix

Narnia: The Magician's Nephew Greta Gerwig Netflix film production test screenings

Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Netflix adaptation of C. S. Lewis’s “Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew” is facing reported production challenges. Despite a massive $280 million budget, insiders suggest the film has encountered difficulties following disappointing test screenings. Reports indicate that some Netflix executives expressed concern over the early cut, leading to decisions for additional filming and external editing assistance.

The film, which stars Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, and Meryl Streep, is set to explore the origins of Narnia. It marks a chronological departure from previous adaptations by focusing on the events of the sixth published novel. The production has also sparked discussion regarding its setting, which appears to shift the timeline from the original 1900s setting to the 1950s.

In anticipation of the film’s theatrical release on February 12, 2027, Disney is releasing a 4K Ultra HD Steelbook edition of the 2005 film “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” on December 15. The new Netflix project is distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing International.
