Netflix orders ‘Lonesome Dove’ series from ‘East of Eden’ team

Netflix has ordered a new television series based on Larry McMurtry’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Western novel, ‘Lonesome Dove’. The project reunites the streaming service with co-showrunners Zoe Kazan and Jeb Stuart, who are also helming the upcoming adaptation of ‘East of Eden’.

Teton Ridge Entertainment, which holds the rights to the ‘Lonesome Dove’ literary franchise, secured the deal following a highly competitive process. The series is envisioned as an ongoing production that will follow the adventures of former Texas Rangers Augustus ‘Gus’ McRae and Woodrow Call during a perilous cattle drive from the Rio Grande to Montana.

The new adaptation follows the 1985 bestseller and aims to provide a fresh take on the story, which was previously adapted into a successful 1989 CBS miniseries. Kazan and Stuart will serve as co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers alongside Thomas Tull, Jillian Share, Jen Gorton, Jon Jashni, Diana Ossana, and Curtis McMurtry.
